Yes, and the fact that simply slowing down and paying attention can do this might mean that the ego isn't as substantial as it usually seems to be

Nice piece. Doctor Immanuel squares away the issue of beauty's subjectivity in typical Kantian fashion - by calling the process of aesthetic judgment subjective but the judgment itself universal. But a subjective judgment can only apply universally if it is made with a disinterested interest. I heard he threw great parties too!

Yes spot on, and then Hegel comes in and (in my humble opinion) brings this discussion to its logical and just conclusion by saying that we don't just take beauty to be universal in our judgement; but that the perception of beauty actually does help us glimpse beyond our particularity and into the universal in which we are embedded, thus revealing the underlying structure life and the cosmos will always take.
